Things to do, activities & attractions when staying with Harebeck Holidays

There is so much to see and do right on our doorstep at Harebeck Holidays in the beautiful Western Lake District where the fells meet the coast. Ideal for all kinds of outdoor adventures, award winning attractions and wildlife. Here are just a few of our favourites things to do.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

Just a 5 minute drive takes you to Ravenglass and the start of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. Take the "La'al Ratty through to Eskdale on this 7 mile narrow gauge railway through some of the best scenery iin the Lake District. Guests of all ages will enjoy this experience and dogs are allowed too.

Walking & Scafell Pike

Many guests staying with us go and walk England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike which can be seen from the farm. The drive to the Wasdale Valley beside Wastwater is a delight in itself. From Wasdale there are also many other high level walks such as Great Gable, Kirk Fell and Illgill AKA The Screes. Lower level walks can be found in any direction you choose with many lovely walks right from your cottage or gypsy caravan door. Cathryn is always on hand to offer walking tips and routes.

Beaches

Where the fells meet the coast is so true at Thornbank. On our doorstep either a walk or a short drive are the sandy beaches of Seascale and Drigg. Seascale with an ice cream parlour serving local, homemade ice creams and a new playground for children. Drigg is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with spectacular dunes and a bird watchers paradise.

Historic Muncaster Castle

Muncaster Castle is a very special and award winning attraction just approximaely a 5 minute drive from Thornbank. Take a tour of the castle, enjoy walking through the vast gardens and grounds, visit the Hawk 7 Owl Centre, see one of the twice daily flying displays in the spring and summer, the amount of things to do there is endless.

Agricultural Shows

The Western Lake District is home to a choice of agricultural shows which have been happening annually, some for over 150 years. They are the highlight of the calendar with residents but also provide fun filled days for our guests. Gosforth Show in August is a just a short walk from Thornbank. After then look for Eskdale Show in September and Wasdale Show in October.
